Fox Valley Technical College is a training resource for law enforcement, corrections, investigative and homeland security personnel across the country and the world.
McCrone Research Institute's intensive one-week courses focus on the application of microscopy to the solution of chemical, environmental and forensic problems. Every course is based on lectures, demonstrations and laboratory practice.
McCrone Associates, College of Microscopy is a specialized learning center providing microscopy and spectroscopy education, dedicated to quality hands-on teaching of microanalytical principles, techniques and applications. A series of forensic courses are offered: Microscopical Examination of Forensic Trace Evidence; Hair Comparison and Identification; Fiber Identification; Forensic Document Examination Instrumentation; Microscopy for Forensic Document Examiners; Forensic Soil Examination; Microscopical Identification of White Powder Unknowns; Body Fluid Identification & Microscopical Methods of Sperm Detection for Forensic DNA/Serology/Biology; and Hair Identification for DNA Analysts. Updates to the listing of course offerings is updated frequently as new courses are continually being added.
The Forensic Science Initiative at West Virginia University. This Initiative is grant funded by NIJ and provides continuing education and general support to the forensic community. This Initiative currently offers a variety of online continuing education courses that are free to forensic service providers in the public sector. The courses can be found at http://elearn.wvu.edu/. The Center for Studies of Law in Action offers courses and symposiums in alcohol-related issues. The Breathalyzer was invented by the Center's late Director.
The Northeast Regional Forensic Institute (NERFI) at the University at Albany is an innovative organization that addresses the current high demand for trained professionals in forensic laboratories while simultaneously fostering the research required to improve the speed, accuracy, and effectiveness of future forensic analyses. The DNA Academy, NERFI’s forensic training program, is unique in its dedicated learning environment and its fast-track to DNA specialization and professional development. Currently, NERFI is offering NIJ-Funded Management Workshops for Forensic Science Managers.
Federal Bureau of Investigation - The Training and Records Testimony Team (TRTT) of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division provides training and expert witness testimony in the science of fingerprints, including all the proper preparation/ processing of friction ridge skin, and criminal history report data to agencies with authorized access to the CJIS systems. The TRTT offers a variety of classes which are conducted at the FBI/CJIS Division in Clarksburg, West Virginia. In addition, some of our courses are available via Video Teleconferencing (VTC). Agencies are encouraged to send their employees to the FBI/CJIS Division to obtain fingerprint and criminal history training from the TRTT. The internal classes are scheduled on a quarterly basis and advertised on the FBI's Internet site at http://www.fbi.gov.
ASCLD/LAB provides training that has been developed with the forensic community’s specific needs in mind. The primary focus in training will be to help crime laboratory personnel understand ISO/IEC 17025 General Requirements for the Competency of Testing and Calibration Laboratories and the quality principles upon which this document is based.
The Office of Justice Programs’ National Institute of Justice (NIJ), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Laboratory Division are co-sponsoring the Impression and Pattern Evidence Symposium to be held August 2–5, 2010, in Clearwater Beach, Florida. The symposium is specifically designed to bring together practitioners and researchers to enhance information-sharing and promote collaboration among the impression and pattern evidence, law enforcement, and legal communities. The symposium will also provide unique educational opportunities for impression and pattern evidence examiners. Online registration will be available April 1st.
